How Kellogg’s cereals fit into a personalized digestive wellness plan

From Kellogg’s company roots to today, we’ve always seen the proactive benefits that fiber, prebiotics and probiotics can have on digestive wellness. That’s why we incorporate these ingredients into many of our foods, including our fiber-filled cereals like the new Hi Happy Inside brand.

We also know that there are lots of ways people react to digestive wellness concerns. We’re constantly learning more about what’s going on inside our bodies, and there is often more to the story than we think.

There’s a wide variety of food types that can bother people – even healthy foods. Onions and garlic, for example, as well as dairy, breads and certain cereals. Because there’s such variety, there isn’t an easy way to know by food group or ingredient which ones bother us, even though dairy and grains are often to blame.

Each person’s approach needs to be more personalized, which brings us to something called FODMAPs, an acronym for “fermentable oligo-, di-, mono-saccharides and polyols.” These are short-chain carbohydrates in foods that some people may not digest and absorb well.

So, Monash University in Australia developed the low FODMAP diet, which gives consumers more options to figure out how to feel better.

At first, you swap out foods that are high in FODMAPs. Then, you start to re-introduce the foods into your diet one-by-one to see which ones irritate you. The hardest part of going through a low FODMAP diet process is that first stage of having to remove everything, so it’s hard to find foods that are tasty and convenient.

That’s where Kellogg’s comes in

Certain Kellogg’s cereals can help you while you’re utilizing the low FODMAP diet, because they’re naturally low in FODMAPs.

Monash University has certified seven of our U.S. cereals as low FODMAP – Kellogg’s Rice Krispies, Kellogg’s Frosted Krispies, Kellogg’s Cocoa Krispies, Kellogg’s Strawberry Krispies, Kellogg’s Corn Flakes, Kellogg’s Crispix and Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes. These cereals are now included in Monash University’s Low FODMAP Diet app.

The cereals are perfect meal or snack options anytime, but especially for people exploring the low FODMAP diet plan. By the way, if you want to try the diet, we recommend you find a local dietitian to help you and monitor your progress.

It’s nice to know our foods can help people while they take a more personal approach to their own digestive wellness. It’s one of the ways Kellogg continues to nourish people so they can flourish and thrive!
