Flip on the news these days and you’re likely to hear the statistics surrounding the Coronavirus 19 (COVID-19) pandemic.
But there’s one statistic you don’t hear often enough: 18 million kids face hunger in the United States right now.
Early school closures this spring, combined with unemployment and a lack of access to some summer programs means more kids are struggling with hunger in our communities.
That’s why Hy-Vee, Inc., has partnered with Kellogg Company and Keurig Dr Pepper for our End Summer Hunger campaign.
Each time a Hy-Vee customer purchases a participating product in July, Hy-Vee will donate the monetary equivalent of a meal to 17 Feeding America member food banks on behalf of Kellogg and Keurig Dr Pepper– up to a maximum donation of $150,000.
Participating products include: Kellogg’s® Frosted Mini-Wheats®, Kellogg’s® Club Crackers and Town House® crackers, CORE® Hydration (six-pack), select Bai Antioxidant infusion (six-pack), and Evian Natural Spring Water (six-pack).
The donations will be made to food banks in Hy-Vee’s eight-state region, and our goal is to donate 1.5 million meals. We’re proud to support Feeding America, because the organization is committed to helping families gain access to meals – no matter what time of year it is.
Earlier this summer, Hy-Vee collaborated with customers and supplier partners (including Kellogg) to donate nearly $800,000 of food and supplies to local nonprofits and food banks in the Twin Cities.
And in June, we exceeded our $1 million goal to help supply local food banks across our eight-state region during the COVID-19 outbreak. We’ve raised nearly $1.1 million, which has provided supplies to 17 Feeding America-affiliated food banks that serve approximately 515 counties in Hy-Vee’s regional footprint.
Clearly, Hy-Vee and Kellogg have a shared commitment to ending hunger. And while the efforts mentioned above have made an impact on this summer’s crisis, we know there’s more we can do.
